Internet issues - not all websites open, ip config not identified

I have internet issues since Saturday and have not received any support from quickline. I can access Google, yahoo but not other websites including quickline, outlook and work network.

My analysis leads to ip config conflict but my expertise is limited and my office IT team is pointing towards ISP not assigning IP as the potential cause.

I tried resetting the modem to factory settings and unable to reset.

Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Well, there are several possible reasons as it seems.

One of the easiest way to figure out the root cause is to connect any other client to the modem. E.g. your smartphome via WIFI. If the smartphone can surf just fine through the internet, it is more likely a problem of your PC configuration. If it behaves the same, it’s somewhere in the modem / router area.

One of the more easy problems would be, if you only have configured IPv6 without IPv4. It would maybe explain why some websites do work just fine (like google, yahoo, facebook, heise.de…) whereas others don’t (e.g. you also can search with google, but the resulting websites will fail if you try to click them). I’ve never tried IPv6 “only” but it seems as IPv6 is still not very common through all websites (?), including the company you’re working (?).
The easy problem would be a bad DNS configuration (either modem or PC; quite frankly a “hard wired” PC misconfiguration is more likely, as normally this is configured “auto-magically” by the ISP, if you don’t set it explicitly). Although it would only explain why you reach SOME websites if you’ve specifically configured a different DNS than the one from Quickline…
If you search through the internet, you’ll find reasons like bad driver configurations, firewall-problems (on the PC itself), installed apps and all imaginable reasons.

I am having the same issue across other laptops trying to connect (wired, wireless).

My phone’s do not connect as they cannot detect the IP.

it would be helpful if you could provide your modem type and connectivity (i.e. HFC, FTTH, DSL). Also if you could indicate what your PC/Mac show under network settings.

The previous poster pointed to partial connectivity (i.e. IPv6 only). You wrote that you have connectivity to google. Please try the search “what is my ip”. It will show your public IP address as seen by google. This will normally be an IPv4 address ie something like 31.111.222.33. If you see an IPv6 address - i.e. a long string with columns, something like *2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334 then this would confirm the IPv6 only connectivity.

You might want to try to turn off your modem for a longer time (>10 minutes). This will make sure that any sessions on the network equipment side have expired.*

Thanks for your suggestions. My IP address is showing the long 2a01:8b81….. and in my connectivity I can see ipv6 active with internet and ipv4 not active.

The modem model is SagemcomF@st3890. I have unplugged, attempted reset and no improvements. The reset to factory default is also not working (not resetting).

I will try one more time to see if it makes a difference

I tried the bridge mode setting in the modem and with LAN connection I was able to use internet like normal. The bridge mode does not allow wifi so I plugged in my mesh router to the modem and I am able to use the wifi connection.

This all sounds a lot like a defect of the modem or a provisioning problem. You can try to set a different Wifi IP range via the cockpit.quickline.ch. If that does not help either, I would suggest to recontact customer care for an exchange of the modem.

Joachim Thanks. Technician came to see the modem and he was not sure. The work around with the router works fine and the wifi connectivity via the router is far better than the modem provided by Quickline. I am planning to keep it that way unless additional issues show up.
